Join the launch in Valparaíso of the pedagogical material “Feminist Proposals for (Un)learning Antisexist Practices”

Next Tuesday, August 19, the launch of the pedagogical material “Feminist Proposals for (Un)learning Antisexist Practices” will take place at the Biblioteca de Humanidades of the Universidad de Valparaíso. This resource was developed by the Dissonances Project: Community, University, and Feminist Disruption and the Diversity and Gender: Intersectional Feminist Approaches hub within the Department of Social Work at the Universidad de Chile.

This material is the outcome of a 2024 research and intervention process carried out with educational communities in the Santiago municipality and women from the Lo Prado municipality. Its purpose is to facilitate participatory educational processes that confront school and gender-based violence from an intersectional feminist perspective, promoting dialogue, active listening, and collective commitment to building more just and transformative spaces. The approach moves away from traditional punitive responses, favoring strategies that foster deep cultural changes in school and community relationships.

“We believe it is urgent to create pedagogical tools that not only denounce sexism in education but also enable new forms of relationship, conversation, and learning within communities. This material arises from concrete experiences with diverse communities and seeks to open up possibilities for imagining and practicing a more just, critical, and transformative education,” highlights Andrea Vera-Gajardo, Director of the Dissonances Project and faculty member of the Institute of Mathematics at the Universidad de Valparaíso.

“As a faculty that houses four areas of pedagogy in which the country's future teachers are trained, this project constitutes an important achievement in the work of incorporating new analytical perspectives, but also new practices of coexistence, that aim for the ideal of justice and equality,” added the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the Universidad de Valparaíso, Pablo Aravena.

The launch event will be open to the university and broader educational community and will include a presentation of the material, a panel discussion, and the distribution of printed copies to participants. The activity aims to collectively reflect on the current challenges in promoting antisexist learning and to strengthen ties between the university, school communities, and social organizations.
