The Launch Event of the Disonancias Project Will Address Experiences in Processes of Gender Institutionalization in Universities and More

September 7, 2023

The opening launch event of the Anillo "Disonancias: Community, University and Feminist Irruption" project will take place on October 6. The event will be held at the Parque Cultural de Valparaíso and will be attended by authorities from the Universidad de Valparaíso, as well as member of the research team and special guests.

The official launch of the Disonancias project will take place on Friday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Parque Cultural de Valparaíso (590 Cumming, Cerro Cárcel). At the beginning of the day, Dra. Andrea Vera — director of the project and academic from the Universidad de Valparaíso — will greet the audience and present the project. Afterward, the authorities representing the Universidad de Valparaíso will continue.

The first roundtable discussion will address institutional and counter-institutional mechanisms for gender, featuring the first international guest, Carmen Romero Bachiller — Spanish sociologist and feminist and LGBTIQ activist. There, the panel of experts will discuss experiences in processes of gender institutionalization in universities, taking up lessons learned, critical views, challenges and difficulties present in the various forms of gender mainstreaming in higher education.

Once the opening part of the event is over, the attendees will be invited to participate in a lunch (subject to limited spots).

Afterward, for the second half of the event, a roundtable discussion on call-out, punitivism and horizons of justice will be held, with the presence of Dr. Moira Pérez — Argentine philosopher — and Nicolás Cuello — art historian, researcher, and freelance translator. The discussion will be focused on the framework of the recent feminist mobilizations in universities, referring to the prevention and intervention of violence in educational and university spaces, addressing recent phenomena such as call-out, debates around punitivism from feminisms and possibilities of justice in these contexts.
