Dr. Analis Kaiser Explores the Connection Between Neuroscience and Gender Studies in Her Lecture at the Universidad de Valparaíso

Last Wednesday, May 31, the Universidad de Valparaíso welcomed Dr. Anelis Kaiser Trujillo — specialize in gender studies in STEM from the University of Freiburg, Germany — at the university's facilities.

There, she gave her lecture "Between sex and non-binary gender differences: perspectives of brain research", which was co-organized by Dr. Andrea Vera Gajardo — director of our project Anillo "Dissonances: Community, University and Feminist Irruption" — together with Dr. Pilar Jarpa from the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad de Valparaíso.

In the words of Dr. Andrea Vera Gajardo, she pointed out that through an activity of this nature "We seek to be an effective platform to spread different areas of knowledge production in which gender studies and feminist theories have been involved".

Who is the Expert?

Dr. Anelis Kaiser received her Ph.D. in psychology in 2008 from the University of Basel, Switzerland. In her doctoral work, she examined the sex/gender in the brain in relation to exploring the existence of paradigmatic, methodological, and statistical flaws that interfere with the assessment of the presence or absence of sex/gender differences.

Her areas of interest include empirical neurofeminism, feminist science and technology studies, neurolinguistics, sex/gender classification and recording in science and technology, fMRI, and justice movements.

Over the past few years, her research has focused on feminist methods and statistical approaches to experimentation in human neuroscience in order to provide an informed contribution to gender theory that is based on information from within neuroscientific laboratories. Anelis Kaiser Trujillo is co-funder of the international research network NeuroGenderings.
